One Year Later

It is nearly a year since I have received this gift card from the great girls over at Nasty Gal (they held a sweepstakes where they gave out 100 gift cards when they reached 100,000 members). I don't know about you, but with gift cards, it's usually get-it-and-spend-as-fast-as-you-can kind of deal for me. So why the 300 some day delay? Just go on their website and you will quickly understand why it is so hard to make up your mind on just what to get. That or the price tag reads upwards of $100.

I knew whatever I decided on, I wanted it to be something that you can't just pick out at your local mall, so I finally decided on a rather unique clutch. I ended up adding on a simple scarf at the last minute, too. I needed just two more dollars to qualify for free shipping, so happily added on the scarf which in the long run saved me $18 in shipping. A great deal if you ask me. Can't wait till they come in!

Spring Break

The much delayed photos from my latest to the big city are finally here. You can read my post where I talk about it here, but here is a short recap of what happened the days following the post.

I spent my spring break working for my aunt, at her business right off of Boardway, where she works with clients and designers throughout the Manhattan area. I wasn't quiet sure what her business was, but when I found out exactly what she did I was in awe. In simple terms, she finds the cut, quality, feel, material type, you name it of fabric that the client is looking for. Of course, there's more to the business than that, but I can go on forever, so I will just stop here and not ramble on.

When I wasn't working, I took on the city at full force. I hit all the "must see/do" things that I hadn't already done before like shopping at Chelsea Market, where I scored a sample pair of Free People, printed pants at a mere $25 bucks, compared to the usual $148. Best invest I have made to date, just wish I got the pair of J. Brands Jeans as well

My trip was filled with first times, too, including dining at an authentic sushi restaurant, one with of of those neat conveyor belts,  going to a recording studio during a recording of my uncle's second album, and my personal favorite and biggest feat, soloing the  NYC subway, I know public transit is not big, scary thing in some places and most of Europe, but unfortunately where I come from no such thing as public transit is offered.

I cannot wait for the chance to go back.

Back in the City

Right now, I'm officially on spring break sitting in my aunt and uncle's quaint apartment that's just a short drive to New York City. Tomorrow, I'll be starting my internship for my aunt at her business in midtown right on 39th Avenue. I'll be working for her and getting to know the ins and outs of an international business, which will give me the much needed experience I need for my major, which so happens to be International Business! Aren't relatives the best? I still can't believe how fortunate I am to have such an amazing opportunity like this. Even if I wasn't majoring in International Business, I still think I would jump on this internship. I mean who would pass up a basically no expense trip to New York City?...besides the shopping of course! When I'm not working, I will be exploring the city on my own. I've already plan on walking through Greenwich Village and hitting up some of the unique boutiques it has to offer as well as getting those famous cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery, if the line is not too long that is (I've heard there's a line just go get in sometimes!), check out most of the prominent museums in the area, and of course, take walks and have lunch in central park. Coming from the South where it was a nice 70 degrees, I was a bit disappointed to find out that New York is still in it's last stages of winter with 50/60 weather. Still, I've never been to New York (where I could fully recount my trip, so I don't count my trip to the city when I was 6) when it wasn't completely freezing in the dead of winter. So, I'm very excited to see central park in bloom and just the city as a whole come to life for spring. I will admit, I'm a bit nervous going out on my own in such a huge city, but I've always loved being on my own making my own decisions, basically just being independent in general. I guess you can say this will be my first big step as a young adult!

Hope your spring is off to a great start! Have a great Monday everyone!

Winter Sun

Taken back in November of 2010, these pictures show the result of  an evening shoot in an empty field.. Over done and clique I know, but it's one of those tired and true settings that rarely fail. Plus, I think the fallen tree really sets it apart and brings some character as well. The outfit itself is rather simple. Just some jeans, boots, and a poncho that's as comfy as it looks.
